Tracks and Topics
Research requires resources to fund research laboratories, advanced hardware and software, skilled researchers and support staff. For a variety of reasons finance and resources for research are not always accessible at universities in the Middle East and Africa, creating barriers to research excellence. This track will focus on creative ways to overcome the challenges of resource-poor environments and will include presentations on resource-sharing, research collaboration, fundraising, public-private partnerships, low-cost research techniques, etc. Researchers are warmly encouraged to share their ideas and experience in these areas.
Learning and teaching remains at the heart of university life for most students. This track is an opportunity to share developments and ideas in learning and teaching including what institutions and individual academics are doing to foster the nexus between learning and teaching and research. More specifically how do academics ensure that their students are exposed to cutting-edge research in their field of study. Submissions are invited which showcase innovations and best practice in learning and teaching at university and innovations in the way research education is delivered.
Because science is increasingly international, the English language has dominated universities’ research output during the last few decades, often at the expense of other languages. Publications in peer-reviewed journals, often based in Anglo-Saxon countries, have become the accepted norm for research output. This means that research published in other languages or in other media are sometimes ignored by the international scientific community and rankings agencies. This track is dedicated to the consideration of strategies and ideas to overcome barriers in language and research culture at the institutional level, as well as visionary ideas about how international science and research culture will evolve in the future.
This track considers strategies and practices that can be adopted for ensuring excellence in research and its applications to the real-world. Papers will consider how a research culture can be developed at a university and whether incentives, financial or otherwise, are beneficial in achieving this. The track also considers papers dealing with how quality is determined in international and university-based assessment systems as well as how to educate students and faculty to recognise quality research from more dubious offerings.
This track considers the impact and future of internationalisation on the core business of universities in this region. Collaboration is a key aspect of learning, teaching and research in which people from different cultures and backgrounds work together towards a common goals to bring out the best from every participant and help overcome local individual and institutional barriers. Ppaers will also look at strategic approaches and innovative ideas for developing and sustaining international collaborations.

Submissions by non-academic institutions
Kindly note that there has been a revision in our submission policies and we will only be accepting proposals from non- academic institutions, who are track sponsors.
If a non- academic institution would like to present a paper at our conferences, they may do so through sponsorship of a whole session (3 presentation slots) at our conferences.
In this instance, if you would like to present a paper under Track 4, you may wish to consider a sponsorship for a session under Track 4 only.
Multiple submissions by academic institutions
All proposers of the said event are to abide to the following
- Each approved presenter will only be scheduled to a single presentation slot in the program
- Each institution is allowed up to three approved presentation slots, of which are to contain three different presenters.
The above policy has been put in place to ensure the delivery of a varied informative and well-tailored presentations by diverse prominent presenters of the global higher education sector.
